Apparently I SUCK at blogging...

The last time I wrote in this thing was April...jeez. So much has changed! I have met some of the best people in my nursing class, and we have all become like family. There's a couple girls I like to call my best buds! :) It really has been an amazing experience.

Where to begin...I'll try to start where I left off...in April...lol--

1. On my first day of clinicals at the Long Term Care Facility, I got in my car afterwards and cried all the way to work, cried the whole time I was at work...I really didn't think I had it in me to face those residents again. But after talking to a few people and just letting the tears flow,I felt better and the next time,I put on a brave face (Thank God Judy*(one of my bestie nursing buds) was there to save the day! She was a professional! What took me 10 minutes to do, she had it done before I even gloved up! (THANKS AGAIN Judy*!)

2. After spending two clinical rotations at that facility, I learned to love it and the residents in it...I could actually see myself working there one day....maybe (but probably not)::Long Term Care is a niche that I think only a certain kind of person fits in....still not sure if that is me)

3. So after 3 Nursing classes, I 'graduated' from Kindergarten (Fundamentals) and moved up to the 'Big House'....I started a class that everyone had told us was pure hell....It seemed easy enough...until the tests! I worked a rotation at a hospital (which really was more up my alley, as I saw ALL sorts of fun things)....maybe fun isn't the best word to use...but if you are a nursing student, you know what I mean ;)......So I passed the class, THANK YOU JESUS!

4)I am now in Psych (which is a whole new realm of nursing)...So far I like it, but I think my eyeballs are about to crust over and fall out from reading SOOOOOO much....and then I can't stay focused because I want to youtube all these mental disorders when I read about them...I'm curious to see how clinicals go....I have a different site each week...which is pretty cool.

5) I went to Columbia, SC for the SNA (student nurses association)-SC meeting in Columbia last month with one of my favorite teachers and the current president of our chapter (SNA-GTC). I got to participate in the legislative side of things, which was pretty awesome also.

6) I decided to run for President of the SNA-GTC for next year...and unofficially, I've won...along with my bestest buddies, Lavender* (VP) and Judy* (Activities Director).

7) I Just got a call today about an application I put in at a local hospital for a Patient Care Tech...I really hope I get it...I need to get out of finance and get my butt in a hospital where I belong!

8)Anywho that is about all for now...I really need to get a few hours of sleep so I can study all day tomorrow....again....

I DEFINITELY WILL KEEP IN TOUCH MORE NOW....:)

Too Too LONG!

I just realized I forgot about this thing!~ I really should get into the habit! My first class for Nursing (which is just basically Fundamentals--things like how to and how not to speak to clients, HIPAA, insurance, the different health care professionals, etc.) is going pretty well. It started on April 4th and it ends on May 4th! YIKES! I took my first REAL test two days ago and got a B! I was so mad at myself! The grading scale for nursing classes is very different than that of the regular education classes @ Tech. We MUST get at least a 78 on everything we do or its a F! Our final average also must be at least a 78 or higher, or we fail the class...What happens if you fail the class you might ask? You get to repeat it one more time and then thats your last chance, if you fail it again, you get kicked out of rotation and have to wait (5 years, maybe) to repeat. Craziness....It kinda stinks too because I am taking two other gen ed classes with this class so I am definitely not doing that anymore once these classes are over. Oh yeah, did i mention on the first day of class we got assigned a project that was due in a week, lol. Fast paced, for sure!

Everyone in my class seems pretty nice too :)

I get a 5 week break after May 4th, thank goodness! Then I start another nursing class and start doing some clinicals at a long term care facility.

So far, thats about it...in 3 weeks I have probably read at least 300-400 pages in my nursing book and wrote a good 75 pages in handwritten notes! I am so going to get carpal tunnel and some vision problems (even more than I already have!)

First Impression

Well, time to make my first impression...

My name is Jordan.
I'm 24.
I'm married.
I have 2 little girls-Jaydyn & Aubrey.
Jaydyn is 6 1/2.
Aubrey is 2 (3 in like 3 weeks).
I work part-time in a loan office-pretty boring!
I go to school full-time @ Greenville Tech.

I got accepted to the nursing program a few months ago and my first nursing class doesn't start until April. It took me 3 tries to get in..I had to actually get a different degree (Associate in Science) to use for extra points on the nursing app to even be considered! But finally, its MY time!

I originally started tech to go to a one year program and get a certificate to be a Pharmacy Technician. That all changed one day when I was making a regular visit to America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses. The optometrist stopped my eye exam abruptly & informed me that I should go to the ER right then and that my optic nerve was swollen & could go blind at any minute. Freaked me out to say the least. So, I head to the ER and I had an awesome nurse ( I have seen my share of horrible nurses having two children and all...). The nurse was amazing and made me feel so much better about being there. He spoke about how much he loved his job and the opportunities it had given him so I thought to myself...This guy not only has a job he loves, he gets paid well, has an almost endless list of job opportunities and he gets to make people feel comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable environment. I thought I can do that, I want to do that so I will do that. The next day I changed my major..and I've been busting my butt to try and get into the competitive nursing program @ Tech. (oh and btw, I was fine, not going blind...after an in-depth examination (and also being told I could have MS) I was cleared...I just have a rare eye condition called Optic Disc Drusen...just hardened proteins on the back of my eye so it makes my optic nerve appear swollen..Lovely right?

Anywho, at the moment I am taking Human Sexuality (which seems so far, to be an AWESOME class). You would be suprised how other cultures view and facilitate sexual relations. I am also taking Clinical nutrition...another pretty easy class. Just counting down the days until my nursing class starts!

Well, I must go--I am at work and should probably being doing some..
